PM Modi Mumbai visit: Man posing as PMO official detained with fake ID, gun recovered

PTC Web Desk: Security arrangements around Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mumbai came under the spotlight after two men were detained near the venue of the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

According to the police, one of the men allegedly introduced himself as an official from the Prime Minister's Office and was carrying a fake PMO identity card. The suspect has been identified as Rohan Parekh.

The police also reportedly recovered a gun from the bodyguard who was accompanying him.

The two men were detained after security personnel checked the identity card and suspected that it was not genuine.

The incident took place just hours before PM Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. The Mumbai Crime Branch has now taken up the investigation.

Officials are trying to find out how the two men managed to reach the high-security area and why they were allegedly carrying a forged identity card and a weapon.

Police probe underway

Investigators are also looking into whether the alleged attempt to gain access using the fake identity card had any connection with the PM's visit.

At this stage, the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case has raised questions about security checks in and around the area, particularly because of the high-profile visit.

PM Modi to address Global Fintech Fest

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Global Fintech Fest 2026 and address participants at the Jio World Centre.

The event is expected to bring together policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, technology companies and investors.

This year's discussions are focused on emerging areas in finance and technology, including agentic AI, tokenisation and quantum technology.
