Bus strike in Punjab: Commuters to hit hard as Punjab roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC workers go on strike

PTC News Desk: Punjab commuters travelling in buses are likely to face massive disruptions as Punjab roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC workers have announced a statewide strike on February 12. The contract workers' union will observe a complate chakka jam  from afternoon citing continued incarceration of union members and the govt's move towards privatisation.  


Meanwhile, the employees will gherao Chief Minister's residence in Sangrur demanding release of fellow union members. PRTC employees alleged raids are being conducted at the homes of the Punjab president and other state committee members in an attempt to arrest them. Some leaders have already been arrested in Muktsar Sahib and Ferozepur. They claim that efforts are being made to suppress the voice of the people.

According to information, employees held a meeting with the State Transport Secretary at 12 noon on Wednesday. The meeting lasted nearly six hours, but no agreement was reached on their demands. Union leaders were first demanding the release of the arrested leaders.
