PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped the campus of Panjab University in Chandigarh on Tuesday after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at student leader Jashan Jawanda on the university premises.
According to preliminary information, the firing took place in the parking area near the Botany Department of the university. Jashan Jawanda, who is the national president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), was reportedly the target of the attack.
Sources said unknown persons fired several rounds at Jawanda. However, he narrowly escaped and no casualties have been reported so far.
The incident triggered tension on the campus, with students gathering at the spot soon after the firing. Police teams rushed to the scene and began an investigation to identify the attackers and ascertain the motive behind the attack.
Authorities are also examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses present near the parking lot at the time of the incident.
