Former Tanda SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra arrested after FBI names him in Rs 4 crore extortion case

PTC News Desk: Punjab Police on Saturday arrested Tanda Police Station SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra in a care pertaining to demanding extortion of Rs 4 cr from a family in the United States. He had earlier been removed from his post and sent to the police lines after his name emerged in the investigation.


Earlier, the FBI had named Nagra as an accused in the case as part of the investigation under 'Operation Hard Ball', which targeted targeted the international networks of gangsters including Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

DIG Navneet Singla had ordered his transfer to the police lines and assigned SP Vineet Ahlawat to investigate the matter.



Following the inquiry, a case was registered against Inspector Nagra late Friday night under charges of extortion and the Prevention of Corruption Act.


On July 10, US and Canadian investigative agencies conducted a joint operation across the United States, Canada and Europe to probe international gangster networks. During the investigation into Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's network in California, the name of an Indian police officer allegedly involved in the racket came to light.


Accused of demanding ransom from US family


US agencies alleged that a Punjab SHO, identified as Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, worked with the gangster network to demand a ransom of USD 400,000 (around Rs 4 crore) from an American family. Investigators also released photographs allegedly showing him with gang members.


Linked to murder of AAP worker


In a complaint, retired ASI Charanjit Singh, who lives in the United States, said that on January 15, 2026, around 4 pm, three motorcycle-borne attackers shot dead AAP worker and hardware businessman Balwinder Singh Satkartar in Miani village of Tanda, Hoshiarpur. The complaint is part of the broader investigation into the gangster network.
