Fatehgarh Sahib murder: Sacrilege case accused Mewa Singh beheaded by unidentified assailants at his residence

Fatehgarh Sahib: A 45-year-old man was murdered at his residence in Fatehgarh Sahib district late Monday evening. The victim has been identified as Mewa Singh, a resident of Ladpur Turan village near Mandi Gobindgarh, who was facing trial in a sacrilege case linked to a local gurudwara.

According to information, the incident took place around 1.30 am. Mewa Singh was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon in a frenzy of blows that left him beheaded, with one of his hands also severed in the attack. The house was left splattered with blood and the assailants fled before help could arrive.


The police reached the spot soon after being alerted and took the body for a post-mortem examination. A forensic team has also examined the crime scene to gather evidence. Investigators are now working to identify the attackers and establish a motive.

Mewa Singh's daughter told the police that her father woke up around 1.30 am. She alleged that attackers, who were already hiding inside the house, pounced on him and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons.

By the time neighbours arrived hearing their criesand opened the door, Mewa Singh was found lying in a pool of blood. The attackers had already escaped.

Background: The Sacrilege Case

Mewa Singh had been facing legal proceedings since October 2020, when he was accused of committing sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at a gurudwara in Turan village. A case was registered against him at Mandi Gobindgarh police station and the matter had since been pending in court. He was currently out on bail, with the trial still ongoing and no final verdict reached, as witness testimony was still being recorded.
