Gagandeep Jammu survives assassination: Shots fired at vehicle of former secretary of Punjab and Haryana HC Bar Association

The incident has triggered strong condemnation from the legal fraternity, with members of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and enhanced security for advocates.

PTC News Desk: An unidentified bike-borne assailant opened fire at opened fire at advocate Gagandeep Jammu, former secretary of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, on Monday while he was travelling in Punjab.


Jammu escaped unhurt in the incident, however the gunshots caused damages to his vehicle. 


The incident has triggered strong condemnation from the legal fraternity, with members of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and enhanced security for advocates.


Jammu filed a police complaint following the incident and said that the attacker was riding a motorcycle. 


Following the complaint, Mohali police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act.


In a statement, the High Court Bar Association condemned the attack and said the shots were fired with the intention of killing Jammu.


“Thankfully no injury has been caused to him and he is safe,” said Advocate Parampreet Singh Bajwa (Harry), secretary of the Bar Association.


The bar association has demanded strict action with immediate arrest of the accused and all others involved. It also demanded adequate security for members of the bar so they can discharge their professional duties without fear or intimidation.
