Giani Harpreet Singh accuses Manpreet Ayali of being AAP proxy as letter triggers political storm
The letter, addressed to Bibi Satwant Kaur, was made public by Giani Harpreet Singh in which he levelled serious allegations against former Akali leader Manpreet Singh Iyali, accusing him of creating obstacles to Panthic unity.
PTC News Desk: A letter written by former Akal Takht Jathedar and Punar Surjit Akali Dal president Giani Harpreet Singh has sparked a major political controversy in Sikh politics.
The letter, addressed to Bibi Satwant Kaur, was made public by Giani Harpreet Singh in which he levelled serious allegations against former Akali leader Manpreet Singh Iyali, accusing him of creating obstacles to Panthic unity. He also alleged that Iyali was acting as a "proxy" for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
In the letter, Giani Harpreet Singh alleged that Manpreet Singh Iyali wanted to become the president of Punar Surjit Akali Dal himself. He claimed that Iyali, along with Jhunda and Umaidpuri, tried to take control of the party and hatched several conspiracies to remove him from the party presidency.
The letter also alleges that Iyali took away all the party's membership and recruitment data when he left. Giani Harpreet Singh further claimed that Iyali and his supporters regularly used abusive language against him and continuously plotted against him.
He also questioned the functioning of the five-member committee, alleging that three of its members had joined hands to take control of the party.
Making another serious allegation, Giani Harpreet Singh claimed that a senior government official was present alongside Manpreet Singh Iyali during meetings held with the 'Waris Punjab De' organisation.
Notably Manpreet Singh Iyali resigned from all his posts in Akali Dal Punar Surjit in May this year. He was serving as the convener of the coordination committee between Akali Dal Punar Surjit and Akali Dal Waris Punjab De.
The Dakha MLA from Ludhiana submitted his resignation on the same day that AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia were visiting Ludhiana.
