PTC News Desk: A heavy rainstorm hit Chandigarh and parts of Punjab early in the morning, bringing dark clouds and making it look like night around 7:30 am. Strong winds and lightning caused damage in some areas—trees were uprooted, vehicles parked outside were damaged, and power cuts occurred after branches fell on electricity lines.

There were also reports that some power poles may have collapsed due to the strong winds.

In many places, house windows broke, car windscreens were damaged, and temporary structures were blown away by the storm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, saying it was a moderate thunderstorm with strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph.

Farmers, especially mango growers, reported losses as many fruits fell from trees just before harvest. In Ludhiana, heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds disrupted daily life.

The weather has also worried wheat farmers, as crops lying in mandis could get damaged despite some protective arrangements. The IMD said similar weather, with winds of 50–60 kmph, is expected in areas like Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Chandigarh, Kharar, and nearby regions.
