Six years after the brutal killing of a six-year-old child, a court  sentenced the accused woman to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for murdring her son over his love for grandmother.

A woman allegedly killed her six-year-old son in Jalandhar district because he “loved his grandmother more than her”, her family members claimed.

The incident took place on June 8, 2020 in Sohal Jagir village of Jalandhar where a Kulwinder Kaur stabbed her only son Arshpreet Singh after he insisted on sleeping with her grandmother as he was very close to her.

Enraged over his closeness, she stabbed him with a kitchen knife, leaving the child soaked in blood. After discovering Arshpreet Singh lying in a pool of blood, his family members rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Kulwinder Kaur after killing his son attempted to flee but later arrested by the police.

In his statement, Avtar Singh revealed that his grandson Arshpreet Singh was very close to his grandmother Charanjit Kaur and loved her deeply. Because of this, arguments often took place between Kulwinder Kaur and other family members. On June 8, 2020, when the child again insisted on sleeping with his grandmother, the dispute escalated to the point that Kulwinder killed her son that night.

In its judgment, the court described the case as extremely serious and sensitive, noting that a mother had taken the life of her innocent child. It stated that strict punishment was necessary to send a strong message to the society.
