Jalandhar excise raid: A joint operation by the police and the Excise Department in Jalandhar led to the recovery of a large consignment of illegal liquor from a residential area. The raid was carried out in Madhuban Colony, located near Raj Nagar, where officials seized around 50 cartons of illicit liquor. A man identified as Raju Chauhan was arrested on charges of liquor smuggling.

According to officials, the action was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs. During preliminary investigation, it emerged that the accused was allegedly running the illegal trade under the cover of a juice shop.

Senior officers, including the SP, ACP and SHO, accompanied the Excise team during the raid. Upon searching the premises, authorities found multiple cartons of liquor stored openly inside the house.

The team had received a tip-off about illegal stock being stored at the location. Acting on the information, a raid was conducted, leading to the recovery of 50 cartons of liquor of different brands. The premises had been checked earlier as well, but this time a significant quantity of whisky was seized.

ACP Atish Bhatia said the information about the illegal activity was received from the Nakhha Wala Bagh area. Based on this, a coordinated raid was carried out. Initial findings suggest that the accused was using his residential property to run unlawful operations.

The Municipal Corporation has also been informed about the case. Its team visited the site and is expected to take action as per rules.

Police officials further stated that Raju Chauhan has a history of similar offences, and earlier cases against him are currently under investigation. In addition to the liquor, four gas cylinders were also recovered from the spot.
