Ludhiana Police solved the Shimlapuri double murder case with the arrest of a distant nephew accused of killing an elderly couple for cash and jewellery
Ludhiana elderly couple murder case: The Ludhiana Police have solved the shocking double murder case of an elderly couple in the city’s Shimlapuri area by arresting one accused, who was reportedly a distant nephew of the deceased couple.
The bodies of the elderly husband and wife were found on May 30 inside their locked house in Janta Nagar, falling under the Shimlapuri locality of Ludhiana. According to the police, the couple had been brutally murdered after being attacked on the head with a heavy object.
The crime came to light nearly two days later when the couple’s daughter, who lives in Canada, repeatedly tried to contact her parents but received no response. Concerned over the unanswered calls, she informed relatives and asked them to visit the house. By that time, foul smell had already started spreading in the locality. Upon entering the house, relatives found the couple dead, with the bodies lying inside the residence for nearly two days.
Following the incident, the police registered a murder case at Division No. 6 Police Station and launched an investigation.
Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the accused was a distant relative of the deceased couple and was known to frequently visit them to seek financial help. On May 28, he allegedly visited the couple again and asked for Rs 1,000.
During the visit, the accused reportedly noticed cash kept inside an almirah, after which he developed a motive to commit the crime. The police said he later attacked both the elderly husband and wife with a heavy object, killing them on the spot before fleeing with approximately Rs 60,000 to Rs 65,000 in cash and jewellery from the house.
The accused has been produced before a court and the police have obtained his remand for further interrogation. Investigators are now probing whether any other person was involved in the crime.
