Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu issues apology over controversial remarks against Scheduled Caste
PTC News Desk: Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu issued an apology over his controversial remarks against Scheduled Caste, a day after the SC Commission directed the SSP, Sangrur, to take action the BJP leader.
Speaking to mediapersons at Amritsar airport, Bittu said he had come to the holy city to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple and seek forgiveness for his “misjudgment”.
Ravneet Singh Bittu maintained that his remarks had been misunderstood and taken out of context. He explained that the comments were made during a heated confrontation with Punjab Police personnel during the recently concluded civic body elections in Sangrur.
Bittu said that if any commission or competent authority calls him for an explanation, he is prepared to appear in person and present his side of the matter. He also stated that he would submit a written apology if required.
“I never intended to insult or demean any Scheduled Caste, OBC, Hindu, Sikh or any other community,” Bittu said.
He also apologised to social organisations, NGOs, deras and religious leaders if his remarks had caused offence.
“I have come here today to express regret over the entire episode. I will visit the Golden Temple and other religious places to seek forgiveness, as I feel burdened by the fact that my words were interpreted in the wrong manner,” he said.
