With inputs from our Ludhiana correspondent Naveen Sharma: Panic gripped the Giaspura area in Ludhiana on Friday when a 35-year-old pregnant woman reported breathing difficulties at the same location where a sewer gas leak had earlier resulted in the death of 11 persons.

Upon receiving the information, the police and other authorities quickly responded to the situation. The pregnant woman was immediately taken to a private hospital, and her condition is stated to be stable now.

Dr Harjinder Singh, SDM, Ludhiana West, said, "There is no gas leak here. A pregnant woman got unconscious. She is now fine. Technical teams and NDRF have been called to double check if there is any gas leakage. We have investigated the area and nothing was found. People have been evacuated and further investigation is underway."

Notably, as per protocols, the Municipal Corporation and NDRF teams along with the SDM and the police immediately rushed to spot where precautionary cordoning was done and the ambient air checking was done with sensors.

Sources said meter reading showed no presence of H2S gas on the spot

Earlier, Sahnewal SHO Inderjit Singh was reported as saying that they received information that a woman complained of breathing problems at 6.30 am at the same location where a sewer gas leak had earlier resulted in the death of 11 persons.

As a precautionary measure, an NDRF team was immediately called from Ladhowal to assess the sewer gas levels in the vicinity.
