Moga tragedy: Six-month-old child dies, woman injured in major road accident

PTC News Desk: A six-month-old toddler died in a road accident on the Kotkapura Bypass in Moga on Saturday morning, while his mother is battling for her life and currently receiving treatment. 


The incident unfolded when a couple was travelling on a bike from their native village Chand Nawan, to Moga met with an accident.


The motorcycle reportedly lost balance due to a raised sewerage manhole on the road, causing the woman and her child to fall and suffer serious injuries. Both were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Moga where doctors declared the child dead, while the woman was referred to another hospital due to her critical condition.

According to relatives of Lakhbir Singh, a resident of Chand Nawan village, he was travelling to Moga with his wife Jyoti and their children for some work. When they reached near Vishwakarma Chowk, the cover of a sewerage manhole was not level with the road surface. As a result, the motorcycle lost balance and the riders were thrown off.


Lakhbir Singh’s wife Jyoti and their six-month-old son, Manveer Singh, fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries. With the help of passersby, both were taken to the Civil Hospital in Moga for treatment. However, the hospital staff declared the infant dead on arrival, while Jyoti was referred to another medical facility for advanced treatment.


The hospital authorities informed the police about the incident, and further investigation is underway.
