Operation Amritpal: Punjab Police arrest Amritpal Singhs aide Tejinder Singh

Ludhiana, March 23:  In the major breakthrough, Khanna police arrested an aide of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh on Thursday.

According to the police, Amritpal Singh’s aide has been identified as Tejinder Singh aka Gorkha Baba, a resident of Punjab's Mangewal village.

As per the sources, Tejinder Singh used to live with Amritpal and was also involved in Ajnala case. Baba used to be Amritpal's gunman for a long time. Tejinder was also active on social media, his pictures along with weapons used to surface on social media. After which a separate case was registered against Tejinder in Malaud police station. 

As per the police information, Tejinder Singh has been arrested under sections 107/151 of the Indian Penal Code (IPS).

"Two other people accompanying Tejinder have also been detained. They are being interrogated", added the DSP.

The DSP said that Tejinder Singh had a case of fight in his name before and a case of liquor smuggling was also registered against him, in which Tejinder had already served the sentence.

Notably, aides of 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh were brought to Amritsar's Baba Bakala court amid heavy police presence.

Baba Bakala court sent 11 aides of Amritpal Singh to 14-day judicial remand. They were to be taken to Ajnala court on transit remand. 


Meanwhile, Punjab Police on March 18 launched an operation against Amritpal Singh and his aides. The police action came almost over three weeks after Amritpal's supporters clashed with uniformed personnel at the Ajnala police station on February 23 on the outskirts of Amritsar, demanding the release of one of Amritpal's close aides, Lovepreet Toofan.

Thousands of his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station, flashing swords and high-calibre firearms and threatening the police with dire consequences if they did not release Lovepreet Toofan, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting and abducting a man.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal on March 18 confirmed that the radical leader had been declared a "fugitive".

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Gill on March 22 revealed at a press conference that a total of 154 people have been arrested in this operation.
