Patiala infant death case: Stray dog leads to arrest of parents who abandoned dead child

PTC News Desk: Hours after a stray dog was seen carrying severed head of an infant near the ward number 4 of Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, SSP Patiala Varun Sharma claimed to have cracked the case and arrested the father of a child who was born dead.
The accused has been identified as Girdhari Lal.
Instead of performing last rites of the child, the parents kept the body of the newborn in a black polythene and dumped the body in a garbage bin. The stray dog while rumbling through the garbage found the and took the head inside the hospital.
Later the accused was arrested and book under section 94 of the BNS for secret disposal of a dead body.
According to the hospital authorities, the couple had arrived at the hospital on August 24 around 8:25 PM and gave birth to a dead child, which was categorised as intrauterine death (IUD).
The incident has sparked outrage among the attendants, questioning sanitation, lack of security and negligence of hospital authorities, which have turned Rajindra hospital into a place of fear rather than safety.
