Pravasi Legal Cell helps Punjab family get Rs 36.13 lakh death compensation after 8-year wait in Oman case
Pravasi Legal Cell helped a Punjab family secure Rs 36.13 lakh death compensation nearly eight years after an Indian worker died in a road accident in Muscat, Oman. The amount has been transferred to District Collector's account in Gurdaspur
PTC Web Desk: After nearly eight years of waiting, the family of an Indian national who lost his life in a road accident in Oman has finally moved closer to receiving the compensation awarded in the case. The breakthrough came following sustained legal and humanitarian efforts by Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC), which pursued the matter with authorities in both India and Oman.
The compensation relates to the death of late Manjit Singh, who died in a road accident in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, on April 23, 2018.
According to Pravasi Legal Cell, despite compensation having been sanctioned by the competent authorities, the family remained without any clear information regarding its status for several years.
Facing prolonged uncertainty, Manjit Singh's mother, Gurmeet Kaur, approached Pravasi Legal Cell seeking legal guidance and assistance in pursuing the pending compensation.

Pravasi Legal Cell said the case was pursued under the leadership of AdvocateJose Abraham, Global President of PLC and Advocate-on-Record in the Supreme Court of India.
The efforts were coordinated by Sudheer Thirunilath, Global PRO of Pravasi Legal Cell, along with Adv. Jessy, President of the Pravasi Legal Cell Oman Chapter, and the PLC Oman team, who continued regular follow-ups until the matter was resolved.
The family has now received an official communication from the Embassy of India in Muscat, confirming that the compensation amount of OMR 14,550, equivalent to Rs 36,13,111.50, was transferred on July 29, 2026.
The amount was remitted from the Embassy of India in Muscat to the District Collector's Account in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
According to the Embassy, the compensation will now be released to the legal heirs by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur, after completion of the required verification process, including submission of the Legal Heir Certificate and other prescribed documents.
