Panjab University confusion: Administration says campus will open, students announce complete shutdown on Nov 26
PU issues notification saying all departments will remain open and exams will be held as per schedule, protesting students say campus will remain completely shut
PTC Web Desk: Confusion continues to prevail over the functioning of Panjab University on November 26 as the administration and protesting students remain firm on their conflicting positions. While the Panjab University administration has issued a notification stating that all departments will remain open and exams will be held as per schedule, student groups have declared that the campus will remain completely shut and no academic activity will be allowed.
According to the university’s latest notification, the campus is to function normally on Wednesday. All faculty members have been directed to remain present in their respective departments from 9 am to 5 pm. T

However, students leading the ongoing protest have strongly opposed the administration’s announcement. They have warned that no classes or exams will take place and have called for a total shutdown of the university. Protest organisers, representing the Panjab University Bachao Morcha, announced that all three university entry gates would be blocked and only those participating in the protest would be allowed inside the campus.
Student leaders have alleged that despite continuous protests, the administration has not issued the long-pending notification for Senate elections, the primary demand driving the agitation. They further claimed that university officials travelled to Delhi for meetings, but no outcome has been communicated, prompting the decision to intensify the protest.
Villages surrounding Chandigarh have reportedly made public announcements urging residents to join the demonstration at Panjab University. Students have also stated that protests, including marches, would continue today and would escalate tomorrow if demands are not met.
The student groups have also declared that examinations will not be allowed to take place under any circumstances, reiterating: “Either cancel the papers or issue the election schedule, otherwise PU will not remain open.”
The protests began several days ago over the delay in Senate election notifications, and students say their agitation will continue until the university administration releases the official schedule.
