Punjab bomb threat: Punjab Secretariat, five temples targetted in threatening email; security heightened

Police along with cybercrime teams have launched investigation into the matter and are probing origin of the email and identify those who are responsible.

PTC News Desk: Security agencies were put on high alert on Thursday after a bomb threat was received against the Punjab Secretariat in Chandigarh. The Secretariat's control room received a threatening email claiming that a bomb had been planted inside the complex. 


Following the alert, police, bomb disposal squads, and other security agencies were immediately mobilised.


The threatening email also mentioned several prominent temples across Punjab, including Durgiana Temple, Mukteshwar Temple, Devi Talab Mandir, Maisar Temple and Kali Mata Mandir.


After the threat was received, security personnel launched extensive search operations inside the Secretariat complex and surrounding areas. Different sections of the building were thoroughly inspected. However, no suspicious object was found during the initial search.

Over the past few months, several key institutions in Chandigarh and Mohali have received similar bomb threats. Earlier, a number of schools, the Punjab and Haryana High Court, district courts, and the passport office were also targeted with threatening emails.
