Three killed, several injured as bus overturns on Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway in Punjab
At least three persons died and several others were injured after a bus overturned on Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway near Batala in Punjab. Multiple vehicles also collided following the accident
PTC Web Desk: At least three persons lost their lives and several others sustained serious injuries after a bus overturned on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway near Kaler Khurd village in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Thursday.
According to initial information, the bus was travelling from Amritsar to Jammu when the accident took place near the Sekhwan police station area close to Batala. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
Officials said the impact of the crash also led to a chain collision involving five vehicles that were travelling behind the bus. Several passengers and motorists were injured in the incident.
Soon after receiving information about the accident, police teams, medical staff and road safety personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed grief over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described the accident as deeply painful and prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families.
He also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those who died in the accident. The Punjab government has assured free and proper medical treatment for all injured persons.
Authorities have started an investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident.
