Punjab family tragedy: Three minors swept away after family jumps into Bhakra canal near Rajpura, couple rescued

PTC News Desk: A Mohali-based family including their three minor children jumped into Bhakra canal near Rajpura in an alleged suicide pact following a family dispute, police said.


While locals rescued the couple, aged  40 and 38, their three children — two girls and a boy — drowned after being swept away by the strong current.

The deceased were identified as Ekam Singh, 14, a Class 10 student of Government High School, Landran; Muskan Kaur, 12, a Class 7 student of Government Middle School, Bharatpur; and Rajvir Kaur, 7, who studied in Class 3 at the village school.


Jarnail Singh Bhullar, station house officer, Kheri Gandiyan police station, said, “We are registering a case against the grandparents of the deceased children on the statement given by their father.”


The children’s bodies were sent to the Rajpura civil hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation was underway, said police.
