Stray dog menace: 80-year-old former sarpanch mauled to death by stray dogs in Punjabs Jagraon

PTC Web Desk: An 80-year-old former village sarpanch and veteran farmers' leader was allegedly mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs while sleeping at his farm in Punjab's Jagraon.

The deceased has been identified as Jagdish Singh, a former sarpanch of Pabbian village. According to local residents, Singh had spent the night at the motor room in his agricultural fields, following his usual routine.

The incident is believed to have taken place late at night when a group of stray dogs reportedly attacked him. Villagers discovered the body the following morning after reaching the fields, where they found signs of a brutal attack.

Residents said Jagdish Singh sustained severe injuries, with extensive bite wounds to both legs and one arm reportedly missing from the body. He is believed to have died at the scene due to the intensity of the attack.

The incident has sparked widespread fear and anger among residents of Pabbian village. Locals claim this is the third major stray dog attack reported in the village within a short span of time, raising serious concerns over public safety.

Villagers have accused the authorities of failing to address the growing menace of stray dogs despite repeated incidents. They said people, particularly the elderly and those working in agricultural fields, now fear stepping out of their homes during early morning or late-night hours.

Residents have urged the administration to take immediate and effective measures to control the stray dog population and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
