Punjab govt declares public holiday on May 26 due to Municipal Corporation polls

The holiday has been announced to facilitate smooth polling during the general elections to Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils across Punjab.

PTC News Desk: The Punjab government has declared a public holiday on May 26 across the state in view of the upcoming local body elections.


According to the notification, the holiday has been announced to facilitate smooth polling during the general elections to Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils across Punjab.

Along with this, all Punjab government offices, boards, corporations, educational institutions, and other government organisations located in Chandigarh will also remain closed. The decision has been taken to ensure that as many people as possible are able to exercise their right to vote.


The Punjab and Haryana High Court has also announced special casual leave on May 26 for all its officers and employees who are registered voters in the Punjab municipal body elections. This will allow staff members to cast their votes in the local body polls.





According to the standard operating procedures issued by the State Elecion Commission, no posters, banners, or any other campaign material related to elections can be displayed near polling stations. No political party or contesting candidate will be allowed to set up polling booths, tents, or similar structures within 200 metres of any polling station.


No private vehicle will be allowed within a 200-metre radius of any polling booth, except for vehicles authorised by the State Election Commission Punjab, the District Election Officer (Jalandhar), or the Returning Officer of the concerned constituency.
