Public holiday in Punjab on July 31; heres what will remain closed
Punjab has declared a public holiday on July 31 to mark martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh. Schools, colleges, government offices and educational institutions will remain closed across the state
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Government has declared July 31 as a public holiday across the state to commemorate the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh.
The holiday has already been included in the Punjab Government's 2026 official holiday calendar and all government institutions will remain closed on the occasion.
As part of the public holiday, all government schools, colleges and other government educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed on July 31. Students, teachers and staff members of these institutions will observe the holiday in honour of the legendary freedom fighter.

Apart from educational institutions, Punjab government offices and other state-run establishments will also remain closed on Friday.
People planning to visit government offices for official work have been advised to schedule their visits accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

Tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh
Every year, Punjab observes Shaheed Udham Singh's martyrdom day by organising tribute programmes and commemorative events at various places across the state. The public holiday has been announced to pay homage to the revolutionary freedom fighter, whose sacrifice continues to inspire generations.
The Punjab government has urged citizens to take note of the holiday while planning official work and other activities on July 31.
