Punjab crime: A sensational murder case has been reported in Punjab’s Ropar district, where a man was allegedly shot dead in Nurpur Bedi area amid an ongoing personal rivalry linked to an old murder case.
The deceased has been identified as Harmol Singh. Soon after the incident, another local resident, Harjot Singh Sidhu, released a video on social media claiming responsibility for the killing.
In the video, Harjot alleged that he took the extreme step after facing years of threats and mental harassment following the murder of his brother, Sukhwinder Singh, in 2019. According to him, Harmol Singh had been accused in that case and had recently come out on bail after spending nearly four years in jail.
Harjot claimed that ever since his release, Harmol had been repeatedly intimidating him and pressuring him to withdraw the murder case. He alleged that the accused would often stop his vehicle, display a pistol and threaten him publicly, even in front of his children.
According to Harjot’s statement, the two sides came face-to-face again in Nurpur Bedi on the day of the incident. He claimed Harmol Singh was accompanied by three to four associates and once again attempted to threaten and humiliate him. Harjot said he then opened fire in what he described as an act of “self-defence” after allegedly feeling cornered and unsafe.
The accused also stated in the video that he alone carried out the shooting and that no political leader, friend or associate was involved in the crime. He maintained that the act was committed consciously and without external pressure.
The Punjab Police have taken the body into custody and started an investigation into the case.
