PTC News Desk: At least eight people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a pickup vehicle carrying members of a family collided with a truck near Janga Wala Mor on the Ferozepur–Fazilka road on Friday morning.
According to initial reports, around 25 family members, including women and children, were travelling from Jalalabad to Beas to immerse the ashes of a deceased relative in the Beas river when the accident occurred. The collision was so severe that several passengers became trapped inside the vehicle. While many victims died at the scene, the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Ferozepur for treatment.
Senior Medical Officer Dr. Nikhil Gupta said some of the critically injured were later referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for specialised medical care.
Soon after receiving information about the crash, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh, along with other senior officers, reached the spot. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with local residents also helping authorities shift the injured to nearby hospitals.
“Our immediate priority was to provide medical assistance to the injured and carry out rescue operations. The exact circumstances that led to the collision are being investigated,” the SSP said.
The tragedy has left the bereaved family and the local community in shock, as the victims were on their way to perform the final rites of a relative when the fatal accident took place.
Police said the identities of the deceased were being verified and further details would be released after their families were informed.
