Punjab weather update: Heavy rainfall continued to lash Pathankot and Amritsar on Monday, bringing pleasant weather to the region.  Several other parts of Punjab, including Jalandhar, also witnessed steady rainfall.

IMD issues yellow alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for August 3 and 4, forecasting rain accompanied by thunderstorms in many parts of Punjab.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, similar weather conditions are expected to continue on August 5 and 6. While widespread rainfall is likely, the possibility of extremely heavy rain remains low.

The weather department has advised people to remain cautious during adverse weather, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay away from open spaces during lightning activity.

Rain expected to bring relief from humid weather

Meteorologists believe the fresh spell of rain will bring down temperatures and provide much-needed relief from the humid conditions that have persisted across the state over the past few days.

However, authorities have also warned that low-lying areas could experience waterlogging and vehicular movement may be affected in some places during periods of intense rainfall.

Chandigarh records warm and humid conditions

According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2°C on Sunday, which was 2 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature settled at 27.4°C, about 1 degree above normal. Chandigarh received only trace rainfall during the last 24 hours.

Bathinda remains the hottest city in Punjab

The weather department said Punjab's average maximum temperature increased by 0.4°C compared to the previous day and remained 1.6°C above normal. Among major cities, Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.5°C, followed by Patiala: 35.4°C, Amritsar: 35.1°C and Ludhiana: 35.0°C.

Although most parts of the state remained dry over the previous 24 hours, Nangal received 22.5 mm of rainfall, while Barnala recorded 2 mm.

Advisory for residents

The IMD has urged residents to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and exercise caution in flood-prone and low-lying areas. People have also been advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and lightning for their safety.
