The elections will be conducted for more than 150 Panchayat Samitis and over 21 Zila Parishads.
PTC News Desk: The Punjab government has informed the high court on Monday that elections for more than 150 Panchayat Samitis and over 21 Zila Parishads in Punjab will be conducted before December 5.
The elections will be conducted for more than 150 Panchayat Samitis and over 21 Zila Parishads.
Punjab submitted its response to a petition filed against the delay in holding Panchayati elections, even though the terms of these Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads had already completed.
A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by Beant Kumar, demanding that elections for these local bodies be conducted at the earliest.
During the previous hearing, the High Court had issued a notice to the Punjab government, seeking an explanation on when the elections would be held.
Following the court’s strict stance, the Punjab government has now assured that these elections will be conducted before December 5.
