PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed that elections for the posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Rampura Phul Block Samiti be conducted on April 1 under its direct supervision.

The matter came up for hearing following repeated cancellations of the elections by the Punjab Government. The polls had earlier been called off twice amid reports that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party lacked a clear majority in the Block Samiti.

Acting on writ petitions filed by the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has now intervened to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process. The court has appointed an independent observer, a lawyer, to oversee the proceedings.

As per the directions, the elections will be conducted under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bathinda, who has been tasked with ensuring transparency and adherence to due process.

The HC has issued strict instructions barring the entry of local MLAs and any individuals not entitled to vote into the polling venue to prevent undue influence or interference.
