PTC News Desk: Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee's General House session is scheduled to take place on Monday. During the session, elections will be held for the posts of President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, General Secretary, and 11 interim committee members.
Notably, Shiromani Akali Dal has once again announced Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami as its candidate for the post of SGPC President.
Total Members of the SGPC General House:
The General House of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) consists of 185 members in total. Of these, 170 are elected through voting, while 15 are nominated. However, at present, only 148 members are active, as 33 have passed away and 4 have resigned.
How is the President elected?
When the session of the House begins, the name of a candidate for the position of President is proposed by one member and seconded by others. If there is no consensus and another faction nominates its own candidate, the President and other office bearers are then elected through voting.
In anticipation of a possible vote, the SGPC has already completed arrangements such as setting up polling booths. SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh has expressed hope that the selection will be unanimous.
