PTC News Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Punjab’s Special DGP Ram Singh to investigate a complaint filed by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) regarding the Tarn Taran by-election. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal thanked the Election Commission for taking prompt action on their complaint.

Responding to the development, Badal wrote, “I thank the Election Commission of India for acting on our complaint and assigning senior police officer Ram Singh, IPS, Special DGP, Punjab, to investigate the false cases filed against Akali workers by the AAP government.”

He further stated, “The Election Commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab to ensure that the investigation into the false FIRs lodged against Akali workers is completed by a senior police officer within 36 hours and the report submitted. Yesterday, acting on the directions of the AAP government, the police registered false cases and arrested our sarpanches, MCs, and other leaders across various districts of Punjab.”

Sukhbir Singh Badal added that the Shiromani Akali Dal had lodged complaints with the Election Commission of India and the election observers posted in Tarn Taran. Following this, SSP Tarn Taran Ravjot Kaur Grewal was suspended. He expressed hope that now a fair investigation would be conducted and justice would be delivered to their workers.
