Three kids among four sustain burns as cylinder pipe leak sparks fire in Ludhiana
The injured were identified as Vikas, Arjun, Surjeet and Rahul
PTC Web Desk: A major fire broke out in a room in Ludhiana, on Thursday after a gas cylinder pipe reportedly leaked and ignited during cooking. Four persons, including three children, suffered serious burn injuries in the incident.
Residents rushed to the spot after hearing loud screams from inside the room. The victims were immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Guddi, mother of the injured children, said she lives in Nichi Mangli. In the same compound resides a youth named Vikas, who was cooking in his room when the incident occurred. Guddi’s children were also present in Vikas’s room at the time.
According to Guddi, the moment Vikas lit the gas stove, flames suddenly erupted from the cylinder pipe. The fire spread rapidly, triggering a small explosion and filling the room with thick smoke. Hearing the cries of the children, neighbours gathered at the spot, rescued the injured and helped shift them to the hospital. The injured were identified as Vikas, Arjun, Surjeet and Rahul.
Speaking from the hospital bed, Vikas said he was preparing food when he struck a matchstick to ignite the stove, causing flames to engulf the room instantly. He claimed that a rat had likely bitten through the gas pipe, leading to the leak.
Vikas sustained severe burns on his face. Rahul, aged four, suffered burns on his legs. Vikas, who works at a plastic factory, said he has been living in Ludhiana for the past two years.
Civil Hospital SMO Akhil Sareen confirmed that all four injured are receiving treatment at the facility.
