Punjab by-polls: EC directs DIG Ludhiana Range to take charge of security arrangements

Ludhiana: The Election Commission of India, on Sunday, directed DIG, Ludhiana Range Ranbir Singh Khatra to take charge of security arrangements in place of SSP (Rural) Ludhiana. The decision came in the wake of violent incidents in Dakha constituency on Sunday.

It has been directed by the Sr. Deputy Election Commissioner, ECI that the DIG of the Range will take over direct supervision of Model Code of Conduct and other remaining security issues related to poll process in place of SSP (Rural), Ludhiana till the election process is completed in Dakha Assembly constituency where By-elections is being held. The DIG will also keep a watch over the activities of the SSP (Rural), Ludhiana.

The move is aimed at preventing any untoward situation and ensure peaceful polling.
