PTC News Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday reacted on the prevailing deadlock over the post-mortem and cremation of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota. During an address in Patiala he said the state government had accepted all the legitimate demands of Jhota’s family.

CM Mann said the government has fulfilled its responsibilities sincerely and that the decision to conduct a post-mortem examination of the body now rested entirely with the family.

Speaking to reporters during the Patiala event, the Chief Minister also criticised the BJP-led Central government, accusing it of repeatedly undermining Punjab’s interests.

He alleged that the Centre had attempted to reduce the state’s authority over Union Territories, limit its representation and share in inter-state water management boards, and withhold funds legally due to Punjab, thereby affecting its development.

Despite these challenges, Mann said his government remained committed to making Punjab prosperous, economically stronger and more developed.

CM takes a dig at opposition

Responding to a question from reporters, Mann also criticised opposition parties over what he described as contradictions in their political approach.

He added that the people of Punjab understood what he described as the double standards of these parties and would respond at the appropriate time.

Family demands CM, DGP's resignation

Meanwhile Parvinder Singh Jhota's family has demanded the resignation of CM Bhagwant Mann and Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. Asserting on the demand, Jhota's father alleged that his son had been murdered at the Chief Minister’s behest because he feared Jhota could affect the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections.

During the third round of talks on Friday, the government panel handed over a written response listing the demands it had agreed to fulfil. These included a CBI investigation into the murder, which is already underway; a post-mortem examination by a team of senior doctors from PGIMER; security for the family; the installation of a statue of Jhota in Mansa; and action against medical stores found violating the rules.

However, the family and the action committee refused to allow the post-mortem examination until their main demands — the resignations of the Chief Minister and the DGP — were met. Meanwhile, the CBI, which is investigating the murder, conducted raids at several medical stores in Mansa on Saturday morning. The agency inspected the sale and stock of banned intoxicating drugs at these establishments.
