Double murder rocks Punjab: Two killed after unidentified attackers open fire in Moga; Opposition targets AAP over law and order

PTC News Desk: Two people killed and three other sustained critical injuries after unidentified assailants fired multiple gunshots from a Black Scorpio SUV late Sunday at Angadpura locality of Moga town.

The deceased have been identified as cousins Sahil Jindal and Gagan Jindal, while the injured have been rushed to a hospital. Five people were standing outside their homes when a group of assailants arrived in a black Scorpio and allegedly opened fire indiscriminately, according to the police.

Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may be linked to personal enmity. The family has named some suspects, and police have launched an investigation.

While the police said the exact number of rounds fired was yet to be determined, eyewitnesses claimed that the attackers fired around 15 to 20 rounds.

Police suspect old rivalry

Investigators suspect that a long-standing rivalry between two groups may have led to the shooting. However, the motive has not yet been established.

Police are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the scene. A forensic team has also been called in to collect evidence as part of the investigation.

Moga SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said, “We have initiated an investigation. Our teams rushed to the spot immediately. Prima facie, five people were sitting outside their homes when a black Scorpio arrived, and assailants inside opened fire. We have recovered three shells from the spot. A forensic team was also called to the spot. We are checking nearby CCTV cameras.”

Opposition slams Punjab govt

The shooting has drawn criticism from opposition leaders, who have raised concerns about law and order in Punjab.

BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa condemned the incident, claiming that two people had died while others were fighting for their lives. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to control gangster activity and questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal over the state’s security situation.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu also criticised the state government over the firing, expressing concerns about public safety.

The police investigation is ongoing, and the circumstances and motive behind the shooting are yet to be established.
