SAD asks Captain Amarinder to explain why Sidhu exchanged pleasantries with same General after defying his advice not to visit Pakistan

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Congress Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to explain why his cabinet minister Navjot Sidhu went to Pakistan and exchanged pleasantries with the same General (Qamar Bajwa) whom he had threatened with repercussions because he was always trying to disturb the peace of Punjab.

In a statement here, party Spokesman Maheshinder Singh Grewal said it was revolting that Navjot Sidhu did not only shake hands with the Pak army chief but also exchanged pleasantries with him. “Sidhu apparently did not even heed his own chief minister’s advice on this issue and did not tell Gen Bajwa to stop terrorist activities in Punjab in his speech on the occasion”.

Stating that Navjot Sidhu had shown down his chief minister, the SAD leader said now it was up to Capt Amarinder Singh to take action against Sidhu because he had not only defied his advice not to visit Pakistan but had also chummed up with the same Pak General again. “This is the same General who is sending drugs into Punjab. He is the same General who sent hand grenades into Punjab which were used for bomb blasts recently. The Pakistan Prime Minister has suggested Sidhu contest elections from Pakistan. I think Capt Amarinder should take Imran Khan on his word and free Sidhu so that he can take up this offer”.

Mr Maheshinder Grewal said it was also extremely unfortunate that someone like Gopal Singh Chawla, who was a close aide of Mumbai blasts mastermind Hafeez Sayeed, was seen hugging the Pakistan army chief at the foundation stone laying ceremony. He said the very fact that an anti-India character like Chawla, who was working to disturb the peace of Punjab, had been given importance at the function and seen consorting with the Pak army chief was very disturbing. He said this had sent out confusing signals to the Sikh community which was a staunch supporter for peace in the sub-continent. “Chawla is an antithesis to this idea and the Pakistan State should not have associated him with a sacred function which aims to spread the universal message of peace and brotherhood as propounded by Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji”, he added.

Stating that the Sikh community would never stand with anyone who stood for breaking India, the Akali leader said sincere attempts should be made to carry forward the initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for lasting peace in the sub-continent.
