Shahkot bypoll: Setback for AAP, Harkrishan Singh Walia to join SAD

In a setback for AAP ahead of the Shahkot bypoll, AAP candidate Harkrishan Singh Walia has decided to join the Akali Dal. Harkrishan Walia is from Jalandhar Cantt who will now be a part of Shiromani Akali Dal.

SAD President Sukhbi Singh Badal will go to the residence of Harkishan Walia at Jalandhar  tomorrow morning and join him in the Shiromani Akali Dal.

On Friday, Former Home Minister and Congress leader Brij Bhupinder Lally joined SAD. The decision was made in presence of SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal at Kang Village (Lohian).

Naib Singh Kohar, son of late ex-minister Ajit S Kohar is the official candidate of SAD.

Shahkot is all set to witness a tough fight between the ruling Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Both the parties are eyeing to win the bye-election and build a momentum for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Six companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed at booths on May 28 to ensure peaceful, free and fair polling. In order to ensure 100 per cent attendance of the polling staff for the rehearsal of bye-elections on the coming Sunday, Deputy Commissioner has ordered to ensure complete videography of the rehearsals.
