Jammu, September 05: In a remote village located within the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, an intense operation to neutralise a holed-up terrorist has entered its second day, with heavy gunfire echoing through the area, according to officials. The operation, which has already spanned over 20 hours, began on Monday and has seen one terrorist killed and two security personnel injured in the initial exchange of gunfire. The focus now remains on eliminating the second terrorist who has taken refuge within a house in Gali Sohab village, Tuli area.

Throughout the night, intermittent firing persisted as security forces progressively tightened their cordon around the targeted house. The situation escalated on Tuesday morning when an attempt was made to storm the house, resulting in intense firing. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties thus far.

The encounter initially erupted around 2 pm on Monday when a joint operation involving the police, Army, and CRPF pinpointed the location where the terrorists had sought shelter under the cover of darkness, during the intervening night between Sunday and Monday.

Upon receiving information about the terrorists' presence, security forces embarked on a challenging journey, trekking for over four hours to reach the village. Once there, they effectively cornered the terrorists, who responded with indiscriminate firing in a desperate attempt to evade the security dragnet.

The exact identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists will be determined once the operation concludes, as per official statements.

The border district of Poonch, along with the nearby Rajouri region, has witnessed numerous encounters this year. These engagements have resulted in the elimination of approximately 20 terrorists and the loss of 10 security personnel. Most of the terrorists met their fate while attempting to infiltrate this side of the border from across the border, according to officials.
