Lok Sabha Security Breach: 8 things you must know about incident that left Parliament engulfed in yellow smoke

Lok Sabha Security Breach: In a massive security breach in Parliament, two men jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, causing chaos among legislators. The incident took place on the day marking the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack.

The security breach forced all of the parliamentarians to flee and the House was adjourned immediately after.

Here's all you need to know about the incident:

1) Two unidentified individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber during the Parliament's Winter Session.  Both of them were carrying gas canisters, and the house was filled with yellow smoke. The entire incident was caught on camera.


2) Members of Parliament (MPs) rushed out of the House after the incident took place. According to one of the MPs, the individuals began shouting slogans and spraying gas.

3) The Lok Sabha members overpowered the two now-detained persons.

Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, who caught hold of the two men, narrated the incident. "He had something in his hand which was emitting yellow-coloured smoke. I snatched it away and continued throwing it outside. This is a major security breach," he said.

4) Delhi Police have arrested both accused for violation of Section 144 and brought to Parliament Street police station in Delhi. One of them has been identified as Sagar Sharma.

Police also detained two other people outside the Parliament, a man and a woman, for protesting with coloured smoke.


5) Speaking over the massive security breach, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla said, "Both of them have been nabbed and the materials with them have also been seized. The two people outside the Parliament have also been arrested by Police..."

6) Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla also said, "A thorough investigation of the incident that took place during zero hour is being done. Essential instructions have also been given to Delhi Police. In the primary investigation, it has been found that it was just a smoke and there is no need to worry about the smoke..."

7) According to Amroha MP Kunwar Danish Ali, they were issued passes by the office of BJP leader Pratap Simha.

8) Delhi Police have ruled out a terror attack and a thorough probe is underway.
