Parliament Security Breach 2023:  On a day marking the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, chaos ensued within the Lok Sabha as two men jumped into the chamber from the visitors' gallery,  in what may be termed as a major Parliament security breach.

Just an hour after news of a significant security breach in Lok Sabha surfaced, Delhi Police reported detaining demonstrators near Transport Bhavan. These protesters had cylindrical container from which yellow smoke was bellowing outAs per reports the accused were carrying gas canisters from which yellow smoke was bellowing out, which further escalating the commotion.

The unprecedented breach led to an immediate adjournment of the House as security personnel rushed to contain the situation. The motives behind this alarming act remain unclear, raising concerns about the effectiveness of security measures within such a critical governmental institution.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of high-security areas and emphasises the necessity for stringent security protocols to prevent unauthorised access and potential threats to the sanctity of parliamentary proceedings. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the breach to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of the parliamentary premises and its occupants.

It comes on a day when India is commemorating observing Parliament attack. The Lok Sabha faced a potential security breach today when a man in the visitor's gallery attempted to leap into the House chamber. Security personnel acted swiftly, thwarting his attempt and swiftly removing him from the premises.

This unprecedented incident unfolded just after the proceedings adjourned at 11:20 am, amidst fervent opposition protests regarding the demonetisation issue. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan later identified the individual as Rakesh Singh Baghel from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. She informed the House that Baghel attempted to breach security and praised the Parliament security personnel for promptly intervening.

Mahajan proposed Baghel's potential release after an inquiry, a sentiment that received agreement from Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar.

Following this revelation around 12:40 pm, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day as opposition protests persisted. Earlier in the session, the House adjourned for nearly 40 minutes, during which an opposition member noticed security personnel struggling with an individual in the visitors' gallery. This person, identified as Mr. Baghel, was apprehended just as he attempted to jump into the Lok Sabha chamber. Security personnel swiftly removed him from the gallery, preventing a potentially dangerous situation.

The swift action prevented an unsettling incident as the visitor's gallery directly faces the press enclosure and the individual's attempt would have led to landing among the Treasury benches.

Typically, Delhi Police personnel in plain clothes are stationed in the Visitors' Gallery to avert such breaches. Notably, while the Speaker had left, the Prime Minister was absent from the House during this incident. However, senior ministers and prominent leaders were present at the time.
