‘Donald Trump’ survives Eid sacrifice after Bangladesh govt steps in
Bangladesh govt rescues a rare albino buffalo named ‘Donald Trump’ from Eid sacrifice and shifts it to Dhaka National Zoo. The blonde-haired buffalo has gone viral on social media
PTC Web Desk: In a story that sounds straight out of a political satire, Bangladesh authorities have stepped in to save a rare albino buffalo named “Donald Trump” from being sacrificed during Eid celebrations . And the Internet can’t stop talking about it.
The unusual buffalo, famous for its striking white coat and golden-blonde hair resembling that of US President Donald Trump, was taken into government custody just hours before it was due to be sacrificed in Dhaka on Thursday.
Police officials confirmed that the 700-kg animal was rescued following direct instructions from the government, which has now decided to preserve the rare buffalo at the National Zoo in the Bangladeshi capital.
Owner Muniruzzaman said officials approached him shortly before Eid and informed him that the government wanted to protect the animal because of its rarity and growing popularity.
“They told me the buffalo should be preserved instead of sacrificed, so I handed it over peacefully,” he said, adding that authorities promised compensation or another animal in return.
The buffalo had become something of a local celebrity long before the dramatic rescue. Social media users were fascinated by its unusual blonde hair, with many joking that it carried the hairstyle and “presence” of the American leader it was named after.
According to the former owner, the name was originally suggested by his brother because the buffalo’s golden hair looked uncannily similar to Donald Trump’s iconic hairstyle.
Officials at Dhaka’s National Zoo have already arranged a separate enclosure and appointed a dedicated caretaker for the animal. Authorities believe the buffalo is still young and can be raised for several more years.
The animal reportedly enjoyed a lifestyle more luxurious than many social media influencers, being cleaned four times a day and fed four meals daily.
In Bangladesh, buffaloes are typically dark in colour, making the white-coated animal an instant attraction wherever it appeared. Its rescue has now turned it into an even bigger sensation online, with many users joking that “Donald Trump has finally received diplomatic immunity.”
For now, the buffalo named Trump appears to have escaped the fate many feared, and instead, has found a permanent home under state protection.
