PTC Web Desk:  National capital Delhi is currently facing a grave environmental challenge. With pollution levels hitting alarming highs, the city's air quality has deteriorated to hazardous levels, posing a significant threat to the health and well-being of its residents. Amid all this chaos, Yoga, an ancient practice encompassing physical postures, controlled breathing, and meditation, offers a holistic approach to improving lung health.

Let's take a look at five yoga asanas, or postures, that can play a significant role in boosting your lung health amid increasing air pollution in Delhi and vicinity.

Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose): Start by lying flat on your stomach with your palms under your shoulders. Inhale gently while raising your upper body and arching your back. This asana encourages chest expansion, facilitating deeper breaths and increased lung capacity.

Ujjayi Pranayama (Ocean Breath): Find a comfortable seated position and close your eyes. Inhale slowly through your nose while slightly constricting the back of your throat. Exhale with the same constriction, creating a soothing ocean-like sound. Ujjayi Pranayama helps regulate your breath and enhances lung function.

Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing): Sit in a cross-legged position and close your eyes. Alternate blocking one nostril at a time using your thumb and ring finger. Inhale through one nostril, exhale through the other. This breathing exercise balances the oxygen flow to both lungs, promoting their efficiency.

Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose): Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet hip-width apart. Inhale and lift your hips off the ground, forming a bridge shape with your body. This pose widens the chest, making breathing smoother and more effective.

Pranayama (Deep Breathing): Sit comfortably with closed eyes, focusing on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your diaphragm to expand. Exhale slowly and fully through your mouth. Consistent practice of deep, mindful breathing enhances lung capacity and oxygen intake.
