IMD forecasts rain in north Indian states for next 3-4 hours

The IMD issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand, warning of potential rain and hailstorms in the higher regions and rain and thunder in the plains.

New Delhi, May 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in several parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the next 3-4 hours. Additionally, there is a possibility of rain and hailstorms in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand on Monday.

Based on the latest satellite imagery, the IMD stated, "There is a possibility of light to moderate spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over certain areas of Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the next 3-4 hours." The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand, warning of potential rain and hailstorms in the higher regions and rain and thunder in the plains.

According to the Meteorological Department, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag can expect rain, while Bageshwar, Almora, and Pithoragarh may experience light rainfall. The department has also cautioned about gusty winds with speeds up to 70 km/h.

Meanwhile, parts of the national capital received rainfall in the early hours of Monday, providing relief from the scorching heat. The IMD had previously forecasted rain and dust storms in certain areas of Delhi-NCR.


Furthermore, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Haryana, North-East Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, indicating a possibility of thunderstorms in Delhi over the next 3-4 days.
