PTC Web Desk: The work of the poor becomes kingly — this saying is meant for people who think about others before themselves. Today, this line is being used for Raju Bhikhari of Pathankot, a man who, without caring for his own hunger or hardship, dedicates his life to serving others.

Despite having no permanent shelter of his own, Raju uses the money he collects through begging not for himself, but to help those in need. This raises a powerful question — who could be more deserving than a man who doesn’t even have a place to sleep? Yet, Raju does not consider his suffering as pain, because for him, serving others comes first.

Battling the bone-chilling cold and sleeping under the open sky, Raju Bhikhari today distributed 500 warm blankets among poor and homeless people. These blankets were purchased from the money he collected through begging. Along with this, he also organised a tea langar for the needy.

These actions are truly astonishing , especially in a society where many people hesitate even to offer water to someone dying on the roadside.

Raju, who sometimes goes days without seeing a proper meal, says that it is God who makes him serve others, and that he is merely an instrument. He has appealed to people to come forward and help those who are in need.

Raju Bhikhari’s work has also been appreciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the “Mann Ki Baat” programme. The shelter provided to him by the central government was not used for himself; instead, Raju converted it into a resting place for other poor and homeless people.

Raju Bhikhari is a shining example for society. His life story and selfless service inspire many, reminding us that true humanity lies in committing ourselves to helping others before thinking of ourselves.
