Bhopal, July 02: In a speech during the launch of the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Eradication Mission 2047 in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized opposition parties, particularly the Congress, for making false promises and offering "freebies" to gain political advantage.

He accused these "family-centric" parties of working solely for the benefit of their own families and cautioned the public against falling for their misleading guarantees.

PM Modi highlighted the schemes announced by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh, which have been labeled as "freebies" by the opposition. These include initiatives such as subsidized Hindu pilgrimages for the elderly, monthly allowances for women, and biannual financial support for farmers. The Congress party has also made similar promises as part of their election campaign.

PM Modi warned that the opposition's assurances of free power, travel, pensions, cheaper petrol, and employment come with hidden costs and negative consequences. He argued that such guarantees ultimately lead to increased expenses, reduced public services, delayed salaries for government employees, higher taxes, and policies detrimental to industries and businesses.

The Prime Minister defended his government's initiatives, citing achievements such as providing free ration to over 80 crore people through the PM Gareeb Kalyan Yojana, offering free healthcare to 50 crore under the Ayushman Yojana, ensuring smoke-free cooking for 10 crore women through the Ujjawala scheme, and granting self-employment loans to 8 crore beneficiaries via the Mudra Yojana.

PM Modi also criticized the alliance between the Congress and other parties, accusing them of colluding despite corruption charges against some members and convictions related to scams. He emphasized that these parties lacked the guarantee of leading the country's ordinary families forward.

The remarks by PM Modi came amidst an intense political contest in Madhya Pradesh, with both the BJP and Congress vying for support ahead of the upcoming state elections.
