'Jaldi hi karni padegi': Rahul Gandhi responds to question on his marriage plans

PTC News Desk: Congress leader and party's Rae Bareli candidate for Lok Sabha Elections was asked a unique question during his rally. A person in the crowd at a rally in Rae Bareli asked Rahul Gandhi about his marriage plans.

When his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra prodded him to respond, Rahul Gandhi smiled and said, "Jaldi hi karni padegi." (I'll have to get married soon).

Before leaving for Rae Bareli, Rahul paid tribute to his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi with an emotional post.

On May 3, the Congress announced Rahul as a candidate for Raebareli and loyalist KL Sharma for Amethi, excluding Priyanka and Vadra from the election. Sharma is up against Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated Rahul in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Rahul has represented Amethi in Parliament since 2004, and he served until 2019. His father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was also an elected member of Amethi in the Lower House from 1981 until his death in 1991.

Sonia Gandhi ran and won Amethi in 1999 before passing the baton to Rahul in 2004. Before Sonia, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had won Raebareli three times.

Feroze Gandhi, Indira Gandhi's husband and Congress leader, was also elected twice in the constituency: in 1952 and 1957.
