Viral: Bride shot on wedding stage in Bihar’s Buxar, alleged lover absconding
The incident occurred around 11 pm when Aarti Kumari was seated on the wedding stage alongside her groom
PTC Web Desk: A joyous wedding celebration in Bihar’s Buxar district turned into a scene of panic and grief late Tuesday night after an 18-year-old bride was allegedly shot by a man believed to be her former lover.
The incident occurred around 11 pm when Aarti Kumari was seated on the wedding stage alongside her groom. Family members and guests had gathered to witness the customary rituals. According to eyewitnesses, a young woman, reportedly Aarti’s sister, was performing a traditional ceremony, applying vermillion on the groom’s forehead before turning towards the bride to repeat the ritual.
At that moment, a man standing among the guests in front of the stage allegedly opened fire at Aarti. The bullet struck her in the abdomen, near the navel, triggering chaos at the venue. Guests rushed towards the stage as some attempted to keep the injured bride conscious, while others fled in fear.
Aarti was immediately taken to the local Sadar Hospital. After initial medical assistance, doctors referred her to the Trauma Centre in Varanasi due to the seriousness of her condition. She remains critical, sources said.
The police have identified the accused as Deenbandhu, a neighbour of the victim. Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting may be linked to a suspected love affair. The accused fled the scene soon after the incident and remains at large.
Additional Station House Officer Chandan Kumar confirmed that Deenbandhu has a prior criminal record and was earlier jailed in a liquor-related case. Police teams are conducting raids to trace and arrest him. His parents have been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The wedding procession, which had arrived from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, returned shortly after the shooting.
