Air India cancels flights to New York, Newark for second straight day amid massive winter storm
In a travel advisory, the airline said airport operations in New York and Newark have been disrupted because of the blizzard, which has brought heavy snow and strong winds.
PTC News Desk: Air India announced on Monday, February 23, that it has cancelled all flights to and from New York City and Newark for Tuesday, February 24, due to a severe blizzard and heavy snowfall.
In a travel advisory, the airline said airport operations in New York and Newark have been disrupted because of the blizzard, which has brought heavy snow and strong winds. Air India had already suspended its New York and Newark services on February 23 after early warnings of a major winter storm. The airline said the decision was taken as a precaution to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
“In view of the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew, Air India flights to and from New York and Newark have been cancelled on 24 February,” Air India posted on X.
The airline added, “Our teams on the ground will be extending support and assistance to all of you who are booked to fly with us on this date.”
The cancellations are part of a broader aviation disruption across the northeastern United States. Blizzard warnings have been issued, with reports indicating that more than 20 inches of snow could fall in parts of New York and nearby areas, along with powerful winds and near-zero visibility.
The extreme weather has caused widespread travel chaos beyond Indian carriers. Thousands of flights have been cancelled at major airports in the region, and authorities have also imposed road travel restrictions and emergency measures to manage the situation.
