PTC Web Desk:  Six persons were killed in a series of connected shootings in eastern Mississippi on Saturday, officials said. The incident took place in the town of West Point, close to the Alabama border. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott confirmed that the shootings happened at three different locations. In a Facebook post, he said that “multiple innocent lives were lost due to violence.”

The sheriff said that a suspect has been taken into custody and assured residents that there is no longer any danger to the community.

Speaking to local media outlet WTVA, Sheriff Scott confirmed the death toll and said law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the case. However, authorities did not immediately share details about the suspect or the motive behind the shootings.

“I ask that you lift our victims and their families in your prayers,” Sheriff Scott wrote. “Law enforcement is busy investigating and will release an update as soon as possible.”

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said more information will be provided during a news conference planned later in the day.
