Anganwadi workers protest outside Education Minister's residence at Dinanagar

Anganwadi workers have been protesting against the decision of the government to begin pre primary classes in Government schools in Punjab. This time they have gone on a hunger strike along with protesting outside Education Minister Aruna Chaudhary in Dinanagar, district Gurdaspur. However the police tried to barricade and tried to stop the workers from entering the residence of the minister. Up in arms against pre-primary classes started in state-run schools, Punjab Anganwadi workers and helpers held demonstrations in several districts of the state to register their strong protest against the government move, earlier also. The state has 26,833 Anganwadi Centres with about 54,000 women workers and helpers. -PTC News
